Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide

We’ve all seen the memes… Mercury is in lemonade again. But, what are people freaking out about, is it even real, and what can you do about it?

Mercury is the planet of communication, travel, technology, and more, but those are the main energies. Most of the year, it’s direct and everything is business as usual. But Mercury is one of our faster moving planets so it goes retrograde more often than most. Retrograde means that the planet appears to stop and begin moving backward for a period of time. Most of planets go retrograde at some point during the year, often for months at a time.

The good news is… Mercury retrograde only lasts three weeks. The bad news is… It happens three times per year. And if you’re wondering if it’s real, it definitely is. It’s not uncommon for IG or some other major app to go offline for part of a day within a few days of it stationing retrograde. Major apps or phones will glitch. Many of is this week (the first week of the retrograde) are receiving emails about people trying to hack our accounts. Iphone normally releases new phones during the retrograde so when they make your phone glitch and you want to buy a new one, they can just blame it on the retrograde. Lol. Just kidding… but I’m serious. But on that note, you see how it can be used to your advantage instead of just a major annoyance.

Most astrologers will tell you that this is a time to review and revise. That’s totally true. And more that that, it’s a huge reminder to double check your work. Mercury retrograde is one of those weird, random times when you accidentally send a sexy snap to your parents or something. I don’t know if people still use snapchat, but you know what I’m getting at. You need to look before you send. And that goes for emails, texts, all of it.

This is also a time when people will be feeling nostalgic, and honestly kinda bored. Enter texts from your ex. And unless you feel like repeating that same cycle one more time for fun… Just say no. Having said that, exes are the only thing I’ll generally say no to during this time because it’s probably not going to last much longer than the retrograde itself, if that. Some will tell you not to travel or sign documents, blah blah blah. If you have the ability to put life on hold, please be my guest. Most of us don’t. So, the lesson here is to READ THE FINE PRINT! Double check your work. Double check your flight schedule and gate. Don’t freak out if your flight gets delayed. Shit may happen. That’s life. The best thing you can do to get through these little mishaps with ease, is just double check everything and then relax. This is actually a great time for self care and Spring cleaning. Get rid of crap you don’t need. Review and revise your health habits. Sleep, diet, exercise. Some of you also need to take a good look and revise who you’re spending time with because we are the sum of the five people we spend the most time with.

With that, there may be delays or glitches and it may be annoying. But, it’s an amazing time to take an honest review of our lives, three times a year, to see if what we’re doing is really bringing us happiness. And, we should be double checking our work anyway.

As a final note, a good chunk of us (myself included) were born with Mercury in retrograde, so it just feels like usual organized chaos for us. You may even feel like you’re communicating more clearly. It doesn't mean others are understanding you clearly. Lol. Miscommunications are bound to happen at this time. Take a deep breath, count to 10, and don’t react without reviewing the situation fully. You’ll be just fine. Xo.
